Benjamin Baldwin

BENJAMIN BALDWIN (1913 - 1993 ) was a critically acclaimed American interior designer and architect known for a sense of lyrical order and refined taste. His garden designs were as important as his interiors and reflected a philosophy that “the whole thing was to make the space beautiful.” His work was embodied by a simplicity of space, purity of form, and quality of materials.

A native of Alabama who studied architecture and design at Princeton and the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Baldwin numbered among his project credits the Sid Richardson Foundation in Fort Worth, Texas, and the President’s Room at Yale University. He also designed stage sets for the Chicago Opera, furniture for Jack Lenor Larsen Inc. and residences in many parts of the U.S.
