Cody Hoyt: Full Time, Non-Primitive
Patrick Parrish Gallery is pleased to present Full Time, Non Primitive, a solo exhibition of hand-built ceramic works by Brooklyn-based artist Cody Hoyt. With the square grid as their starting point, Hoyt’s newest works focus on simple abstraction of surface patterns. Form becomes rather secondary to the complexity and idiosyncrasy accomplished with Hoyt’s intricate technique of pigmented, cut, and inlaid clay. For this exhibition, Hoyt chose to make primarily flat works – wall installations, tables, and simple vessels consisting entirely of flat surfaces. By freeing up the edges, “the pattern nods at infinity. It goes in all directions,“ writes Hoyt. Full Time, Non Primitive will be Cody Hoyt’s 5th solo exhibition with the gallery.
Trained as a painter, CODY HOYT creates large, intricately-patterned stoneware vessels using his own hand-building and inlay techniques. Hoyt received his B.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art in 2007. His work has been shown in New York Magazine, Dwell, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, American Craft, Interview Magazine, Wallpaper, Juxtapoz, and the New York Times Magazine. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
